Personal Statement

Dr. Hartzell is currently an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist on the Pediatric Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Emergency Psychiatry Service at NewYork-Presbyterian/ Weill Cornell Medical Center. In this capacity she is involved in training medical students, psychiatry residents, pediatrics residents, child psychiatry fellows, and evaluates and treats children, adolescents, and adults in the emergency room and hospital. Dr. Hartzell sees patients of all ages, including young children, adolescents, and adults. She treats conditions such as mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety, ADHD, post-partum depression, neurodevelopmental disorders, psychosomatic disorders, and functional neurologic disorders.

Biographical Info

Dr. Hartzell received her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, completed her psychiatry residency at Emory University School of Medicine, and completed a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Training Program of Columbia and Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ She then completed an additional two year fellowship in maternal-infant psychiatry at Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ with a focus on early child development, postpartum mental health, and the needs of families of medically sick or premature infants. During this time she conducted research on the mental health of mothers of infants neonatal intensive care unit and provided psychiatric care to young children and parents of infants. She has also worked on the pediatric psychiatry consult service in the medical setting, as well as in the emergency department. She has experience working with medically complex children and their families, and a particular interest in collaborating with other mental health providers, medical specialists, families, and schools. Her research focus includes effects of maternal trauma exposure and PTSD on parenting and child mental health, parental mental health in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and somatic symptom disorders.
