Personal Statement

Cytopathology has been at the helm of cancer screening and diagnostics for over half a century. Dr George Papanicolaou instituted the “Pap test” as the fundamental basis of cervical cancer screening which has curbed cervical cancer and is a success story not just in cytopathology but global health care. This is my motivation for being an academic cytopathologist. To teach and to learn from my daily practice for improving the lives of our patients. Key decisions that directly impact patient lives are a responsibility which I take very seriously. My job is that of an educator as well. Training and teaching residents and fellows is an integral part of my daily practice. I am passionate about this role of mentorship. My objective is to train outstanding diagnosticians who are keen investigators and critical thinkers as well. I continuously strive to contribute as a servant-leader for my community of patients, healthcare providers and physicians. My hope is that in pursuing this career trajectory I can make an impact in reducing the morbidity and mortality faced by our patients, resulting in a higher quality of health and well-being.
