Start with these habits:听
1. Eat regular meals.听听
It may be tempting to skip lunch if you know there鈥檚 a holiday feast ahead for dinner, but it鈥檚 not the best plan.听
鈥淕oing to parties famished can often lead to people overeating,鈥 Stahl Salzman says. 鈥淗ave normal, well-balanced meals throughout the day. Maybe even have a small high-protein snack right before you go, so that you may be less tempted to indulge.鈥听
2. Quench your thirst wisely.听
The adage not to 鈥渄rink your calories鈥 comes into play even more often during the holiday season.听听
People often forget that holiday cocktails and mocktails and other alcoholic drinks can contain a lot of calories and a lot of . Research also shows that drinking alcohol can lower your inhibitions and make you more likely to eat more. Keep your drinking in moderation, with no more than one alcoholic beverage per day for women and two for men.听
3. Schedule in exercise.听
The holiday season is busy, so you鈥檒l need to carve out time for yourself and keeping yourself healthy. This is a good habit to establish before the new year rolls around.听
Schedule in on your calendar, and treat those workouts like you would any other appointment. Don鈥檛 cancel on yourself. Your health will thank you.听
4. Slow down and hit pause.听
This sentiment is a good one for the holiday season! Pause often and take a few minutes to simply slow down and breathe. This can help you manage stress more effectively. Pausing is also a good habit for healthy eating.听听
鈥淧ause and slow down, savor that time with others and take breaks between bites,鈥 Stahl Salzman says. 鈥淭ake a sip of water between bites. It often takes, research says, 20 minutes for your stomach to signal to your brain that it鈥檚 full. Give yourself that time to digest the meal, to help your body notice whether it鈥檚 actually still hungry.鈥听
