Personal Statement

Nicholas Romano, M.D., MPH is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College, and an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. As an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, he supervises Addiction Psychiatry Fellows on the inpatient rehabilitation unit at the NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health Center. As the psychiatrist on the inpatient rehabilitation unit, he collaboratively assesses and treats patients with alcohol and substance use disorders, in conjunction with the evaluation and treatment of co-occurring psychiatric disorders. In addition, he is a director of the SAFE Program (Support, Advocacy, and Family Education), aimed at supporting families, reducing stigma of substance use disorders and enhancing education of addiction for individuals and families. He also maintains a faculty practice treating adults and welcomes all patients for consultations, psychotherapy, diagnostic evaluations, and medication management.

Biographical Info

Dr. Nicholas Romano graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Central Florida. He then obtained a Master of Public Health from Columbia University where he dedicated his studies on the interacting social, cultural, economic, and psychological forces that influence health, particularly among communities of sexual and gender minorities. During his time at Columbia University, he also obtained a certificate in Infectious Disease Epidemiology. Dr. Romano received a medical degree from Florida International University in Miami, FL. He completed his general psychiatry residency at New York-Presbyterian/Weill-Cornell Medical Center. His passion to meet the needs of many of his patients and communities led him to pursue a fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at New York-Presbyterian/Weill-Cornell Medical Center.
