Biographical Info

Tatyana Kushner, MD, MSCE is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Gastroenterology, with joint appointments in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Population Health Sciences. Her clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of liver diseases, with a focus on viral hepatitis (hepatitis B,C, and D) and women with liver disease, including pregnancy-related liver conditions and reproductive health as it pertains to liver disease.

Her research interests focus on delineating the influence of chronic liver disease (such as MASLD and viral hepatitis) on pregnancy outcomes, developing improved detection and management of liver diseases during pregnancy (such as cholestasis of pregnancy and other liver diseases in pregnancy), and improved understanding of the interaction of liver disease with pregnancy. In addition, her clinical research program also focuses on delineating the epidemiology and outcomes of individuals living with viral hepatitis, such as delta hepatitis, and developing interventions to optimize detection and treatment of viral hepatitis. Her work has been published in numerous gastroenterology and liver journals.

Dr. Kushner received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and graduated with academic distinction. She then received her medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine where she also completed a residency program in Internal Medicine. She received fellowship training in Gastroenterology at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also obtained a Masters degree in Clinical Epidemiology. She then completed a fellowship in transplant hepatology at the University of California, San Francisco. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology.
