From choosing the right provider and making an appointment to making payments and working with insurance, this page answers the most frequently asked questions people have about the Weill Cornell Psychiatry Specialty Center.
How do I make an appointment?
Please call our office at (646) 962-2820 and one of our Patient Services Coordinators will be happy to provide you with information about our center including fees and specialties. If you decide that you would like to make an appointment with one of our providers, a clinician will contact you to complete a phone assessment, which ensures that you will be scheduled to see the provider that can best meet your needs.
How long do I have to wait for an appointment?
We do our best to provide you with the earliest appointment times available. Appointment availability varies based on provider and treatment options.
Do you take my insurance?
The Weill Cornell Psychiatry Specialty Center accepts the Weill Cornell Aetna PPO plan. We do not contract with other insurances and would be considered "out of network" by all other plans. We require payment at the time of service and will provide the documentation required to patients who wish to submit an insurance claim. Patients are responsible for verifying their out of network benefits with their insurance company and for filing the claims.
How can I pay for appointments?
We accept payment in the form of cash, check or credit card. See more about fees, billing, and payment, or log in to Weill Connect.
Will you work with my existing providers?
Yes, we are happy to collaborate with your primary care physician, other mental health providers, and/or specialists as needed to provide you with treatment that is specific to your unique needs.
Does your practice provide second opinions and consultations?
Yes, we offer expert second opinions and consultations to provide treatment recommendations.
What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?
You can call the Center at (646) 962-2820. We do require at least 24 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee.
Does your center provide services for children or adults?
Our center consists of professionals that specialize in treating children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. We provide services across the lifespan.聽Learn more about the populations we serve.
What's the difference between a Psychiatrist, Psychologist, and Clinical Social Worker? Who should I see?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (M.D.) who prescribes medication for mental health concerns. Some psychiatrists also provide psychotherapy.
A psychologist has a Ph.D. and can provide psychotherapy services or neuropsychological/educational testing. A clinical social worker is a highly experienced Master's prepared clinician who can provide psychotherapy. Psychologists and clinical social workers cannot prescribe medication in the state of New York.
Our psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists collaborate closely to deliver highly integrated care for our patients. If you know that you need medication, we will schedule an evaluation with a Psychiatrist. If you are unsure of your needs at this time, any of these professionals can provide you with an evaluation and make recommendations for additional treatment. Learn more about our care team.
How do I know if I need medication?
The best way to determine if medication is needed is to schedule an evaluation with one of our providers. A provider can assist you by making treatment recommendations and discussing all of your options with you at the time of the evaluation.
Please call us at (646) 962-2820 so that one of our providers can further explain our services and how we may be able to assist you.
