Who We Care For

The Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ Division of Cardiology cares for patients of all genders and gender identities who have heart disease or are at risk for heart disease. All of our team’s outstanding cardiologists have a high level of understanding of women’s heart health.

At the Women’s Heart Program, we have an additional specialized focus on important transitions in a woman’s life that may impact heart health, including pregnancy, after childbirth, menopause and other times.

Whether you have recently been diagnosed with heart disease, or you have a personal or family health history that puts you at a higher risk for heart disease, it’s never too late to take charge of your heart health.

Supportive and Empowering Care for Women

Patients at the Women’s Heart Program at Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ benefit from our supportive, compassionate approach to care that focuses on empowering all patients with information and strategies to improve health and quality of life. Our specialized approach allows us to connect on a deeper level with our patients. Knowledge of the intricacies of a woman’s life can help inform strategies that will work best in the context of each patient’s life situation. Additionally, we provide opportunities for support groups and group health counseling so that women can benefit from camaraderie of a shared experience.

Women’s Heart Program Patients

We care for women who have: 

A personal or family history of heart disease:

  • Personal history of heart disease, stroke or peripheral vascular disease
  • Family history of heart attack, stroke or sudden death, especially at an early age

Significant risk factors for heart disease for women:

  • Inflammatory or rheumatologic disorders, such as , and
  • or prediabetes
  • Current or prior history of smoking
  • , high , or low
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Kidney disease

Experienced certain health events:

  • Cancer treatment, including chemotherapies and radiation treatments for breast cancer, ovarian cancer or lymphoma
  • Premature menopause from either natural or medical causes
  • A high-risk pregnancy (, or low birth weight for baby)
